Emma Mason, daughter of Daniel and Jane Ebrite, was born Oct 10, 1879, on a farm near New Richmond, Ind. After a lingering illness of some six years, she passed away Jan 18, 1954, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Merrill Clapp. Mrs. Mason spent her entire life in and near New Richmond where she earned the respect and friendship of all who knew her. In early life she became a member of the New Richmond Methodist Church and was an active member as long as her health permitted. She was married to Frank Bennett, Oct 5,1899, and to this union was born a daughter, Opal Jane. She was later married to Fred Mason in 1909, and one son, Paul Leon Mason was born to this union. Mrs. Mason spent about 12 enjoyable years as cook in the New Richmond School hot lunch program. She seemed to enjoy the association with the children and it was quite a blow to her when failing health made it necessary for her to give up the work there. She was much appreciated by those with whom she worked and children whom she served. While her illness had been serious for a year or more, it was not critical for more than a week. The end came quietly at 11:20 p.m.m Jan. 18. She was preceded in death by her father, mother, a brother and one grandchild, and is survived by a sister, Mrs. Edgar T. Jones; a daughter, Mrs. Merrill Clapp; a son, Paul L. Mason of Crawfordsville and three granddaughters, Mrs. Faye L. Suter of Colfax and Mary Margaret and Elizabeth Ann Mason of Crawfordsville. Besides these, a host of friends and neighbors mourn her passing. Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Mason were conducted Thursday afternoon from the New Richmond Methodist Church. The Rev. A.A. Schenck and the Rev. Voris Servies officiated. Interment was in New Richmond Cemetery.
